Disability in History: We the People
Did you know that Thomas Edison had a disability? People with disabilities have been woven into the fabric of American history since the time of the Revolutionary War, starting with President George Washington.
As we pause to celebrate our nation's independence on July 4th and gear up to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th, let's remember the many Americans with disabilities and their contributions to American history, including Alexander Graham Bell and Harriet Tubman, as well as the multitudes of people with disabilities who have more quietly faced and shaped disability in our nation.
